    Abstract

    The GAZEL cohort was established in 1989 among employees of Électricité de France-Gaz de France (EDF-GDF). In 1989, GAZEL recruited 20,625 volunteers working at EDF-GDF who were then between the ages of 35 and 50 (15,011 men and 5,614 women). The cohort is diverse in terms of social, economic, and occupational status, health, and health-related behaviors. The collected data cover various dimensions and come from different sources: an annual self-administered questionnaire (morbidity, lifestyle, life events, etc.); EDF-GDF human resources department for social, demographic, and occupational characteristics; special social security scheme, occupational medicine, SNDS (outpatient and inpatient care, causes of death), and Social Security Health Examination Centers. A biobank is associated with the cohort.
