    <abstract contentType="purpose">To verify the existence and describe the nature of cognitive deficits (attention and emotional perception abilities as well as mental flexibility and inhibition) in pathological poker players. The long-term objective is to construct a cognitive remediation therapy programme focussing on these cognitive deficits and to test it in a clinical trial that may be put out to national or regional PHRC (clinical hospital research programme) tender.</abstract>
